Fishing Trip Descriptions (Orange Beach / Gulf Shores)

3‑Hour Trolling Trip (Entry‑Level)

What it is: An easy, action‑oriented introduction to offshore trolling.

Targets: Spanish mackerel, king mackerel, bonito, and other surface‑oriented fish.

How we fish: We run 3–5 rods at a time with a variety of lures. Anglers rotate when a fish hooks up.

Great for: First‑timers, small kids, families that want steady bites with minimal run time.

Important: This trip is trolling only. No bottom fishing.

4‑Hour Family Special (Trolling Only)

What it is: Family‑friendly trolling focused on keeping rods bending.

Targets: Spanish mackerel, king mackerel, bonito, and similar species that will strike trolled lures.

How we fish: 3–5 rods trolling spread; crew assists and guests take turns on hooked fish. No experience needed.

Great for: Families with kids, mixed ages, and groups new to saltwater.

Important: We do not bottom fish for red snapper on 4‑hour trips.

5‑Hour Combo Trip (Trolling + Bottom)

What it is: A balanced, intermediate trip that introduces both techniques.

Targets: A mixed bag trolling species (Spanish/king/bonito) plus in‑season bottom fish when regulations allow (e.g., vermilion snapper, triggerfish, red snapper when open).

How we fish: Start with one method and switch when the captain sees the best opportunity based on conditions and current reports.

Great for: Families or groups ready to try both trolling and bottom fishing.

Important: Bottom species are seasonal and regulation‑dependent; if closed, we focus more on trolling and other legal options.

6‑Hour Bottom / Snapper Trip

What it is: Primary focus on bottom fishing over reefs/wrecks when seasons permit.

Targets: Red snapper (in season), triggerfish, vermilion snapper; may add Spanish/king opportunities as time allows.

How we fish: Everyone gets their own rod and drops baits straight down to structure; the crew teaches technique and helps with baiting and fish handling.

Great for: Guests who want classic reef fishing and a solid shot at quality fillets (when legal).

Important: Results vary with skill level, current, and season. Regulations control what we can keep.

8‑, 10‑, and 12‑Hour Bottom / Red Snapper Trips (Farther Offshore)

What it is: Longer bottom‑fishing missions with more range and time on productive numbers.

Targets: A wider variety of bottom species and larger fish; red snapper when open. Additional time improves odds of locating the best bite windows.

How we fish: Dedicated bottom work with potential travel to farther‑offshore structure.

Great for: Serious anglers and groups who want maximum fishing time and range.

Important: Best suited to guests comfortable with longer days offshore. Seasons/bag limits apply.

Clear Definitions

Trolling

  • We fish 3–5 rods at once, pulling lures/baits while the boat moves.
  • Anglers take turns fighting fish; not everyone has a rod at the same time.
  • Minimal experience required, great for kids and new anglers.

Bottom Fishing

  • Each angler has their own rod, dropping baited hooks straight down to reefs/wrecks.
  • You’ll hook and fight the fish yourself with coaching from the crew.
  • Requires a little technique (easy to learn on the water).

Season & Regulations Reminder: Species availability, size, and bag limits change throughout the year. Your captain will advise what’s legal and biting for your trip date.

Quick FAQ

Can we bottom fish for red snapper on 3‑ or 4‑hour trips?
No. The 3‑hour and 4‑hour Family Special are trolling‑only trips.

Will everyone have their own rod?

  • Trolling: No rods are shared and we rotate on bites.
  • Bottom fishing: Yes each angler fishes their own rod.

Is this kid‑friendly?
Yes. Trolling trips are especially good for children and first‑timers. We’ll size life jackets and tackle to the angler.
